Public House automates the total household income calculation for each application, saving you the time and headache of manual calculations or separate spreadsheets. The applicant provides the initial details for each income source and the system automates all calculations:
- Calculates each income type (earned, benefit, other) for each household member
- Totals income from each source to calculate total household income
- Automatically flags total household income if it exceeds the maximum allowable income or does not meet the minimum income limit
- Staff reviews the data, edits any income details as needed, and selects an income status for each income source
Annual Income = Annual Income (from YTD or average pay/pay period) + Annual Bonus/Tips + Overtime/Differential Pay
New Income/Employment: Applicant Input
Applicants enter: employer name and address, date of hire, employment status, pay frequency, average gross/overtime/bonus pay, average hours per pay period, date of most recent pay stub, and year-to-date income.
Base Income Calculation
All calculations are based on 52 weeks in a year (HUD calculation). The base is a weekly amount earned, then adjusted to annualize the income.
Ongoing Employment:
- Starting in the past: full annual income used
- Starting in the future: future annual income minus time before the start date
Employment that will finish:
- Over a year, ending in the future: future time worked used
- Less than a year: (End Date β Start Date)/7
Annual Income Calculation Types
Year-to-Date β Extrapolates income based on employment start date and last pay period. Useful for consistent hours/wages but may be inaccurate early in the calendar year.
Average Pay/Pay Period β Used when YTD doesnβt accurately reflect annual income (e.g., bonus overinflation or recent raise). Requires explanation from the applicant.
Applicants must select which method best reflects their income.
Staff Review
For each income source, staff selects one of four statuses:
- Unlocked β Applicant can edit the income source
- Accepted β Staff has accepted the standard calculation; source is locked to applicant
- Excluded β Not included in household rollups; source is locked to applicant
- Overridden β Staff specifies an annual income that overrides automatic calculations; locked to applicant
Staff can enter explanations for any status selection, which are visible to the applicant on the dashboard.
